Radio Astronomy · Aerospace Engineering

John Vincent Manog

I am an Aerospace engineering student and aspiring radio astronomer, working at the intersection of instrumentation, signal processing, and observational astronomy — from receiver commissioning to rocketry.

I immerse myself in projects that involve programming and astronomy, driven by passion to expand my understanding of the universe.

I am equally passionate about sharing this knowledge to inspire others.

Research & Internships

K-band Receiver Commissioning of the TNRT 40m Telescope
National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand

Research Intern · supervised by Dr. Bannawit Pimpanuwat & Dr. Koichiro Sugiyama

Built a Python multi-script pipeline for receiver characterization and pointing calibration of the Thai National Radio Telescope's MPIfR K-band receiver (21.9 – 23.5 GHz, dual circular polarization).

  • System temperature Tsys = 31 – 34 K; zenith opacity τ₀ ≈ 0.10 (clear sky)
  • 8-parameter pointing model: RMS 5.6″ (Az·cosEl) / 20.0″ (El) over 1,103 cross-scans
  • MCMC validation (emcee) of a WLS pointing solution, methods agreed to fractions of an arcsecond
  • Identified and flagged a 22.7 GHz back-end hardware artifact
Cometary Molecular Emission Analysis
National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand

Research Intern · supervised by Dr. Bannawit Pimpanuwat · C/2025 A6 (Lemmon)

Drafting a follow-up analysis of OH 1665 and 1667 emission lines as reported by FAST in comet C/2025 A6 (Lemmon) using TNRT data.

Data Science Internship
De La Salle University · Center for Complexity and Emerging Technologies

Intern · Python & C data science workshop

Did an internship on data science fundamentals with Python and C, culminating in an individual research project and a closing team competitive programming round.

  • Built a Python pipeline scraping Reddit user activity which analyzed temporal patterns to recommend optimal time windows for advertising
  • Presented findings to workshop organizers and peers as the final research deliverable
  • Placed top 4 of 16 teams in the competitive programming round
